Host : Hello，Welcome to Talk Asia . I am Han Yinghua , my guest today is Korean Pop singer Rain.
A multi-talented artist for his rich, deep voice and outstanding dance moves and acting skills. Rain shot his start and shew his name in the country as male lead actor in the Korean Drama < FULL HOUSE>. He made his music show 3 years ago with a hip song album <BAD GUY> and broke the main stream Asian market . Since then , hs’s won a lot of awards in Asian regions and MTV Grands this year.
Rain , welcome to Talk Asia . So nice to see you! Tell me why did you use the name “Rain”?
Rain : Before I made my first performance, I was talking with my producer about which stage name to use? He said I gave impression of sadness when I am dancing . so I decided to choose the Chinese character “Bi” which means sadness, the sad as rain falling , that is why I chose this name. （注意，宝说用中文字“雨”，老外普遍觉得中文看起来很酷）
H : You ‘ve won the whole list of award including the MTV Grand Asia ,that must be exited?
R: I am extremely thankful to the fans’ in China ,HK and Asia for their support , it makes me feel like a dream.
H: Rain , you have 4 albums officially so far and one coming up. You’ve achieved ,in such a short splendid time, such a status, Did you ever think you could be so successful so early? ( 惊讶于宝的成功)
R: The Drama series is very influencial and the fact I am also a singer made difference, because in Korea where I started, it is not trained people to be both actors and singers. I was the first one to do that . There are a great deal of work. But I got lot of support and love from my audience.
For me ,to receive same treatment from overseas ,I felt I was very lucky.
H : You are here for concert in Hongkong , you know, the tickets WOW! Just like that ..That must be exciting !
R:I was extremely excited to hear the news, really seems like a dream. I am not an artist from HK and fans gave me stupendous support. All of this made me very thankful ! I do hope the succeed of this tour, would be a start or may more activities in HK thought out rest of Asia . ( 宝的表情让人看着真舒服)
H: Do you have to turn down your dancing or anything to perform in China? （什么破问题）
R: Not at all.（毫不迟疑的） I always try to perform my concert with my own way, You could ask me earlier ,why the Chinese fans love my music , and I believe what I show them in my concert is they haven’t seen before. There are many performers who would like to tear their cloth on the stage. But I was the first one. （提到中国云）
H: You ‘ve toured a numbers of cities here in Asia, any favorites?
R: HK in China is the home of Andy Lau, Jacky Cheun and other great Chinese artists whom I am a big fan of . I ‘d actually really like to meet them if I get the chance .
Asian culture is really great .So there is no specific country . I like Asia and Asian culture as a whole . (小子很会讲话，但我相信他真的最喜欢香港，一开口才是真话。呵呵)
H：Now you have made it in Asia market .What is your next ?
R: It is too much earlier to say : I made it in the Asian market. The reason I am active in Japan, HK, China and around the Asia is I wanna succeed here and then I want to be even more international .
Because currently US ‘s dominated music market ,what I really like to see is a top Asian artist emerges strongly from Asian market and succeed in US market. I am not speaking only for myself , but for any Asian artist . I ‘d be really happy for any Asian if he /she managers to do . （宝是个有使命感的人）
Although I still have long way to go, I ‘d like to became pride of Asia. When another Asian artist entered US market ,I’d like him/her to think” there was an artist called Rain ‘s succeed US market. This is my dream.
I hope I would come to the time when I step out in global stage . But until that time, I need to prepare a lot of more work , I need to study hard ,Especially different languages . So that I could became more international . (这段好长，相信小子提前准备过，野心很大哦！)
H：Rain， what was like to meet Will Smith , Mariah Carey in MTV Video award in Japan ?
R: I wasn’t able to meet them in person , There are always something to learn from people who hare passionate about what they do and who have succeed . They are different from ordinary people , so I learn a lot just from watching them. I also learn in awards there are a lot of good things about Asian culture . ( 小子真的像海绵，吸取东西的能力超强，而且还是总结理论的专家哦！)
H: What did they teach you?
R：I learnt instead of relying on the imitation of American Music ,the better chance for asian artist to succeed is if he/she follows his/her own culture . there is a famous hippop rap artist called Lu kim , she loves Asian culture ,her boots have a picture of car and she might wear a jacket with dragon design.
So the import thing I learnt is instead of following US market. We only to follow our own style . ( 很有想法的小子)
H; Rain , your fans’ age ranges from 4 to 50. not only in Korea,but in entire Asian region. Why do you think they come to see you? To listen to your music ? To watch your move? (这个问题真好， 让我们看看小子怎么回答)
R：If you wanna interest most of people to like you. It ‘s important you are able to say honestly there are something you can not do ,just like it is important to acknowledge things you do do well. So you can ask people to enjoy with you .
That’s my approach and that is why my fans like me. ( 他的内在比外表更美)
H：You are very humble . So this is not your good looks ? ( 主持人这时已经有点心神荡漾了，这个问题显然不是预备好的)
R：No ！（小子直接说英语，听懂了），I know that is not the case because I remember when I was going to my audition before fist show, I was rejected 12 times and was told to stay behind ,the reason I was rejected is because my face is too ugly . I was even told to come back after close my plastic surgery.
In fact, I was told after one of auditions, my singing /dancing was great ,but I didn't make it because I didn’t have double eye-lines.
How do you think I thought at that time? （面试的人估计现在太不起头来，有眼无珠阿）
H : Rain, we’ll take a very very short break ,when we come back ,we’ll talk about getting his first big break. There are lots more in TALK ASIA ,So don’t go away.
H: welcome back, my guest today is singer and actor Rain. What did you look like when you were a child, very musical?
R: I am innocent and shelled as a child . So I didn’t know a lot about music or dancing .when I was in premier six . No one would participate in the talent show. So I decided to go on. When audience applauded for me , I felt wonderful ,I started dancing right after that .
H : Well your parents were very encouraging ?
R :My parents were initially against it ,but they became supportive after a while ,so there are no special obstacles in choosing this carrier.
H : I read you lost your mother at very young age, that must be in a very very difficult time for you ,how did you deal with that ?
R: I mother was a big part of my life. The mother-san relationship between us was very strong. In korea, you have to take internal exam to get entry into university. Around that time , I was getting ready to take exam,but her healthy was getting very badly and she begun to scolding me a lot. I was also in treachery at that time and all of these just put stress on our relationship . we didn’t talk much and became very distant .
Before taking exam ,it is a usual to receive some traditional Korean sweets. My mother brought me the sweets and gave it to me together with a letter . In the letter , she said she was sorry . when I read it,I was heartbroken . （觉得宝有恋母情结）
After a few month during which we still didn’t speak much to each other ,she passed away. Till these days, I was regretted . I was once able to pick her flowers or buy her a meal . (低下头，表情开始沉重)
At that time, I swore in front of her picture when I receive a major award,that will be in her honor . I am very happy I ‘ve achieved this. （微笑）
H : ( 感动的) I am sure she’ll be very very proud of you. Have you ever dedicated any song in her memory?
R: In this concert, there is a song I dedicated to her, I used to cry a lot when singing this sond, but now I could more control myself . I think because of her memory ,I try hard and became more humble , and because of her ,I try to do a good person ,not to do bad things.(怎么让我想起那首《because of you》？宝唱得也很动情地)
H： Rain, your music career begun with you being a backup dancer. Then you went solo. Were there determined points when you really decided to go solo?
R: Working as a dancer has limit because you are dancing as set moves. But as a singer . You have more varity to became more your self continually .That is why I make decision to be singer. Meeting JYP my manager was really a determined point .
H: but that is a risk ,right? You could fail .
R : (笑) I had a faith , I believe everything would turn out well in the end . But it was struggle first . One point I didn’t eat for 2 days because I have no money . There was also a time I was ill but I couldn’t go to hospital . I was hard but these things only made me more determined and gave me strength to overcome the obstacles. (宝是个乐观且意志坚定的人，这也是天赋吧 )
I didn’t know then it’d take 3 ,4 or 10 years to succeed .,but I really believed that would happen some day. There were a lot people who helped me along the way as well ,I think I was very lucky .
H : Rain, you devised some dances, what about songs writing ? Do you plan to do something like that? (这个问题太不专业了，明知道宝不懂五线谱，而且作曲和跳舞都好的艺人好像除了JYP，目前没发现还有谁。再说JYP的舞跳得不敢恭维)
R: I plan to continue what I am doing . I am ac actor and a singer although I am interested in songs writing. I think that’d come later . for the moment , I just want to focus on being best singer and best actor that I can be.
H : Now there are so many young , talented people are coming up to Asia , how do you plan to stay ahead of them?
R: When I was working, I don’t sleep more than 2 hours a night. My motive of life is to be humble and endless persist drives . I really believe there is nothing can be gain without efforts .
I know there are many people who have better chance people who have better dances and people who may have great bodies and who can act well . ( 小子很清楚自己的强项) ，However，I feel that if I practice extra hours everyday when everybody else was sleeping already , I could better be improving and feel succeed.
H : How do you relax ?
R: There are two ways I relieve my stress after performance. I usually read drama scripts or go out for a meal with my staff. ( 小子演唱会后总去酒吧原来如此啊? )
H: That is not fun! (惊讶的)
R: （笑） For me, that is enjoyable . （小子真是能忍人所不能忍啊）
H : J-pop , K-pop is taking all Asia and somebody don't even understand what they are listening to. What do you think this?
R: Well ,As I said earlier, I think innocent things will get through people. Showing everything without hiding anything ,that is what I believe . ( 小子的“真诚”理论)
What I see the people who love my music ,even they can’t understand the languages , I am convinced the sincerity touched them,make them related to .
That ‘d be great if I just studied English and sing English songs , But there are so many other languages I need to learn . I need to study Japnese, Cantonese, Mandarin . I am a little worried about how I get to learn I tall. But I ‘ll study hard and show my fans the improvement of me in the future . (原来宝也有发愁的事，我们和宝一块好好学习吧)
H：I was just gonna ask you ,you are actually studying English .is this difficult ? (这主持人站着说话不腰疼，她说韩语试试)
R: I am studying a few words a day without a fail . but pronunciation is still very difficult .English is something I need to do consistently and I look forward the day we can have the interview in English. (宝的发音是我听过所有韩国人里最标准的)
H: Rain, we are gonna take a very very short break ,when we come back , we are gonna ask Rain which he prefers ,singing or acting? Stay with us!
H : Welcome back to TALK ASIA ,with me is Korean POP singer Rain. I know you are sort of well-known because of acting in TV show <FULL HOUSE> , how much that changed your life?
R : I wouldn’t say it is life changing , but it did help me enter the Asian market. And help make the name Rain better known in around Asia . Most of people who watched FH like it. It is a good show and bright-hearted . So I think a lot of people also enjoy it for many other reasons. (虽然宝不愿承认，但是也得承认FH对他帮助很大)
H: And you have new drama too, tell me about that.
R : the name of new drama is called “love to kill “, it ‘s about a man who takes revenge to a woman who betrayed his brother and run away ,then he fall in love with this girl himself. You ‘d see whole new side of me in this drama .
H : so it is pretty challenging?
R: he is a challenging character portray. He has two sides in his personality .He turn a side when he is with his brother and in the scene with that girl, he is completely cold-hearted . It’s been challenging to get these two sides acrossed . It is unclear whether the end would turn out to be warm happy love story or whether it would be bleeding and sad.
( 该死的爱太沉重了，个人认为宝的表演也有点沉重，放松点更好,表打我 )
H : Do you have any movie project in the apparent time ?
R: I don’t really want to do a very commercial movie , it is not important to me to have huge audience rating. Even I was offered a small budget movie .If it gives me opportunities to show my acting skills and if it give me acknowledgment as an actor, I ‘d be very happy with that . I have no wish to become any more popular pr famous .
There is actually a plan for a movie net year , So we’ll see what happens. (小子对表演的野心不小啊，革命尚未成功，小子还需努力哦)
H : So Steven Spielberg will call you tomorrow , You will do a movie ? (充满赞赏的看着wuli宝)
R: I need to give up everything to focus on learning English . （算不算回避问题啊 ，呵呵）
H : If I give you choice between acting and singing , which would you prefer ?
R : I got asked this question a lot, I feel it’s similar to the question :Who do you like better ,your mother or your father ? It is hard to answer. ( 老练的宝)
H ：So how do you keep the balance in your life? You don’t sleep and you hardly have time for any hobbies.
R : I believe that if you want to gain something ,you need to sacrifice something else . So if you I want to enjoy hanging with friends or have a girlfriend . That ‘d be better to give up the work I am doing now because it’ll be really difficult to do everything well .
Because I am still young, I think it better to lay these these things aside for now and concentrate on my work . Someone once told me there’d be a plenty time to sleep when you are dead. ( 这些宝都是从哪里学的？ 惭愧，偶这么大了也没懂 )
H : What’s the hardest part of this business ?
R: Relationships, It’s hard to take care of people around me when I am working, But I do feel I need to cherish people around me. And I think my friends would like me to do that as well. (宝也头疼人际关系 )
H : where do you see your career going? I mean in the next couple of years . I know you have new album out .
R: I think the path I am on now is exactly wide or me. I am not just an actor or a singer from Korea . I want to be representative of Asia and Asian people regardless you are Japnese, Taiwanese , Chinese ,Singaporean , Pilippions .
I think Asian culture is great ,Currently ,there are a lot of talented Asian people working in US market . And I think it is time for more Asian entertainments to immerge the US market . I ‘d like to be able to in the near future and become the person all of Asia can be proud of.
